TV, Film + on-line content creation

South Pine Media is based in East Dorset. We combine over 30 years experience in traditional television, film and on-line content production with CGI and evolving technologies like generative AI to deliver the best possible results.

Our Production Services

Filming

Once we have discussed what you want to achieve our DoP with 30+ year experience can bring your ideas to life, helping you choose visual style, camera requirements, lighting and delivery format.

Editing

Once the elements have been filmed and the graphics generated we assemble them to create a narrative just the way you want it. From simple video edits to immersive visuals involving 2D + 3D graphics, CGI and generative AI - we create it all in-house.

Pre Production

Every great project starts with great planning: scripts, story boards, mood boards, branding, target audience, delivery platform.

Green Screen Filming

AI and Smart Masks can't solve every situation. Chroma key shooting is still very much alive and is often quicker and more cost-effective. We've been doing it for years so we can advise you on the best approach for your production.

when you need it done right.

we've got you covered.

Filming services in detail

Camerawork is at the heart of what we do, it's what we do best. Lighting is our particular area of expertise - whether it's a cosy, intimate interview, atmospheric crypt or large multi camera studio, we do it all. Our resident director of photography has 30+ years experience in broadcast television working on prime time shows for all major UK broadcasters.

Unsure of which camera you need for your project?, which codec and format to shoot in? That's where we come in, we can advise you on the best solution that fits your production needs and your budget.

The truth is it's not really about the camera any more because pretty much every modern camera is more than up to the task of recording great images if set up correctly, though some cameras are better than others in specific scenarios like low light or high frame rates. What WILL impact the quality of the final image is lens choice and video compression, and of course good lighting. Luckily you don't need to worry about this sort of stuff because that's OUR job!

Also known as CSO (colour separation overlay) or chroma keying

It's a subject that deserves its own page. Despite AI-driven 'magic mask' technology being exceptional at removing backgrounds it doesn't always work flawlessly, expecially when it comes to tricky fine detail like hair. There is still a strong use case for shooting against a chroma key background in many situations and if it's shot correctly will save you time and money in post production.

You may have reservations about using CSO backgrounds for one or more of the following reasons:

Grey pixels around the subject causing a 'dirty' key?

Unnatural/unrealistic composition?

Green / blue 'bleed' in the final image, especially around hair?

All these things can be solved by lighting the screen and the subject correctly, separation between the subject and the screen, avoiding reflective clothing and accessories and also lighting the subject to match the back plate that will be added in post.

The other important factor to successful CSO is using a suitable camera with sufficient bit depth - it's not about the number of pixels it's about the quality of the data being recorded: for example a 4K camera with 4:2:0 sub sampling recording 8 bit colour and Long GOP will give a much poorer result compared to a HD camera with 4:2:2 sub sampling recording 10 bit colour and Intra-frame.

*Green screen is the most common term for CSO backgrounds but of course the screen can be any colour, the computer doesn't care. We use green and blue the most because we are usually filming people, and green/blue are the furthest away from human skin tone and therefore easier to separate.

Editing + Post Production in detail

Editing and graphics bring your ideas to life.

In-house we edit on FCPX and DaVinci Resolve; FCXP for speedy turnaround, Resolve for more in depth control of compositing, colour grading and sound design.

We also use freelance editors who are absolute geniuses when it comes to Premiere Pro and After Effects.

GRAPHICS + ANIMATION

2D + 3D animation: from a simple 2D 'explainer' video to a fully raytraced, photo-realistic 3D polygon 'product shot'.

We are also investing in generative AI for producing video content: our approach is to incorporate AI elements into existing video projects, not completely replace traditional video with AI. Currently (as of Spring 2026) AI has limitations, especially when it comes to new products or prototypes where the AI algorithm is unable to scrape existing data from the internet, it's also an expensive way to create video content when high bit rate and bit depth or HDR video is required. It is however a great tool for social media content showcasing fashion, tech, lifestyle etc.

If you're interested in incorporating AI into your project drop us a line and we can explain its strengths and weaknesses and how best to utilise it for your particular project.
